Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The following COVIDSafe rules are currently in place at the Melbourne Market:

  • Fitted face masks must continue to be worn indoors, including on the trading floor, Buyers’ Walk, flower market, stores, warehouses, commercial tenancies, offices, and cafes (except when consuming food and drink). Face masks are no longer compulsory when outdoors; however, they should be worn outdoors in any situation where social distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Market cafes have returned to seated service; however, density limits apply.
  • Gates 2 and 3 and the P1 pedestrian turnstile remain closed, with all entering vehicle and foot traffic required to come through Gate 1.
  • Visitors can re-enter the market, including market tours; however, tours are limited to 5 people (excluding tour guide).
  • Only one person per electric vehicle or buggy.

We ask you to be vigilant and continue to follow COVIDSafe practices.

  • Social distancing must be strictly adhered to; you must keep 1.5 metres from others wherever possible.
  • Do not attend the Melbourne Market if you are feeling unwell.
  • If you are experiencing COVID symptoms, get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result.

Vale Alan Dykes

The MMA and Melbourne Market Community were saddened to learn of the passing of Alan Dykes, a much-loved member of our market community. As communicated in a market circular sent on Sunday night, Alan passed away at the age of 74 after a short health battle, dying in hospital early Sunday morning.

Alan was an influential figure in the market and had been involved in many facets of market life. He was a member of the Advisory Board for the Melbourne Market Trust (now the MMA) and served as both Vice President and President of Fresh State during his career. In addition, he was a key figure in establishing the market credit service and also contributed to a radio segment on 3LO, talking listeners through a fresh produce market update each week.

Funeral details
A funeral will be held for Alan on Tuesday 29 June, 11:00 am at St Peter’s Catholic Church, 285 Clayton Road, Clayton.

If you hadn’t already heard (and I’m sure you have because we’re so excited about it!) A better choice! won the 2021 PMA-Produce Plus Marketer of the Year Award (MOYA).

The award, known as Australasia’s premier marketing award for the fresh fruit, vegetable and floral industry, was won in recognition of the Shop&Win campaign and was presented at the Hort Connections Gala Dinner held in Brisbane.

As well as winning MOYA, our ‘Australia’s Fresh Produce Markets’ stand won best stand display at the Hort Connections trade show and judging by the pictures below featuring an abundance of fresh produce, it’s not hard to see why.

What’s next?
We’re in the final stages of getting our next A better choice! national campaign put together, and we can’t wait to share the details with you soon! Watch this space…

Scheduled Power Outage

On Wednesday, 30 June, approximately 48 tenancies on the Buyers’ Walk will experience a 1-hour power disruption due to a temporary power shutdown of substations 6 and 9. This temporary power shutdown is to perform crucial preparation work for the solar canopies. Please note that this shutdown will affect all power, including cool rooms, lights and services.

The shutdown will occur between 11am, and 1pm, so standard operation at the market will not be affected. Those directly affected by this power outage have been notified, via email; you can read more about the scheduled outage by clicking here.

Zero Tolerance on Drugs and Alcohol

The health and safety of market users is our number one priority. That is why working under the influence of alcohol or prohibited drugs is not permitted at the Melbourne Market. Individuals or businesses who are found consuming or supplying alcohol on-site risk severe penalties, including having lease or licence terminated for businesses, or lengthy suspensions and possible bans for individuals.

To learn more about the MMA’s policy on drug and alcohol use, visit melbournemarket.com.au/rules-and-safety/

Parking bay relocations

Parking bays relocations remain in effect while the upright supporting beams for the first canopies are put into place. This first group of parking bays will be relocated until the 6th of July. We thank market users for their cooperation and patience during this time.

The MMA keeps up-to-date information on the market website regarding the construction project, including any parking relocations to minimise disruption to businesses ➡️ https://melbournemarkets.com.au/news-events/canopy-project-update/.

Questions
If you have any questions about the parking relocation or the undercover parking project, please contact customer service.
