Casual charges for the use of extra stands

To help ensure a fair trading environment, please remember that fees will apply for the use of a stand on the F&V trading floor if it is not covered by your quarterly licence fees. You will be charged the casual daily rate for using a stand outside of your licence for any of the following reasons:

  • Produce overflow
  • Orders or pallets on a nearby stand
  • Parking forklift on a nearby stand

Where possible, an MRO will notify you on the floor when a casual charge is being applied to your account; however, the MMA also conducts regular audits of stand usage via CCTV and may apply charges to your account for casual stand usage. The MMA will be conducting these audits to maintain a fair and equitable trading environment for the majority of stand holders who are operating within their licenced area.

Christmas Trading Hours

The Melbourne Market, including the Flower Market, will be closed on public holidays during the Christmas – New Year period.

To accommodate buying demand during the busy festive season, buyers will be able to access the site to collect orders that have been pre-arranged. It is important to remember the Buyers’ Walk, Trading Floor, and Flower Market will be closed, as these are not mandatory trading days. Some wholesalers, growers and warehouse tenants may allow access to their premises for buyers who have made individual arrangements to collect produce.

Thank you to everyone for donating to FareShare and Foodbank over the past 12 months. Both companies will be closed briefly over the Christmas and New Year period, as below.

FareShare: The final day for market donations to food charity FareShare in 2023 will be Wednesday, 20 December. Collections will resume on Tuesday, 2 January 2024.

Foodbank: The final day for market donations to food charity Foodbank in 2023 will be Friday, 15 December. Collections will resume on Monday, 8 January 2024.
