BLITZ ON PARKING AT WEST MELBOURNE – DO THE RIGHT THING
AND AVOID AN INFRINGMENT
The actions of several segments of the market are currently adversely impacting on operations of us all. The following listed parking areas are currently the focus of a parking blitz. The blitz will target non-compliant market users and ensure our car parks are used correctly to ensure parking is assessable to all.
Market Relations Officers and Security will be actively patrolling these key areas to ensure compliance and will issue on the spot infringement notices as necessary.
CAR PARK AT GATE 7 & 8
Abandoned vehicles
There are many trucks in this car park that are seemingly abandoned and the MMA is currently making contact with these owners to have them removed. Those not removed will be deemed abandoned and the MMA will remove from the site.
Unregistered vehicles
There appears to be several unregistered vehicles in this car park and I would like to remind you that the MMA has the ability under its by-laws to issue an infringement notice for each day an unregistered vehicle occupies market land. The infringement is $740.20 per day.
Parking outside of designated bays
There are vehicles that consistently park incorrectly across multiple bays, these will be subject to a daily infringement notices of $29.00 if that practice continues.
Parking area time limits
This car park is a casual parking area that attracts a daily rate of $6 per vehicle, owners who park their vehicles for periods longer than that risk being subject to an infringement notice of $29.00 per day.
EASTERN CAR PARK & 1ST STREET
Parking for buyers before 7:00am
The uncovered East end bays and along 1st street are restricted to buyers before 7:00am.
Signage in these car parks also clearly states no sedan parking prior to 7:00am.
Sedans parked in these areas prior to 7:00am will be subject to an infringement notice of $29.00 per day.
Non-buyers parked in these areas prior to 7:00am regardless of vehicle type will be subject to an infringement notice of $29.00 per day. The intention is to have parking readily available to encourage buyers into the market.
NATIONAL FLOWER CENTRE (NFC)
The number of bays around the NFC where parking is reserved for Florists on Flower Market days has recently been increased. These have been marked with a yellow painted flower. Non – florist vehicles parked in these bays will be subject to an infringement notice of $29.00.
While these three areas are being highlighted I would like to remind all Market users of their obligations to follow the direction on any signage before parking your vehicle, if you are unsure please see either a Market Relations Officer or Security for clarification.
