Don’t Forget Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day is just days away, this Sunday 12 May!

Don’t forget to pick up promo posters for retailers who sell flowers from the front of Customer Service on the Buyers Walk or within the National Flower Centre.

The National Flower Centre’s advertising campaign will continue this week, including on radio, social media and billboards.

You can also get involved by sharing Mother’s Day content from the National Flower Centre Facebook and Instagram.

Food Waste to Energy with
Yarra Valley Water

Have you ever wondered what happens to the organic waste collected in the blue bins? Watch the video to find out more.

The MMA’s Food Waste to Energy partnership with Yarra Valley Water transforms fruit and veg that’s not fit for consumption into clean energy, generating enough to power the equivalent of 1,300 homes each year! The program uses organic matter collected in the blue bins, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing food waste to landfill.

Long term, the MMA hopes to be able to power more of the market with this green hydrogen for the benefit of the environment and all market users.

Thanks to the efforts of the market community, together we can turn waste into opportunity and work towards a greener future.

Help Keep our Market Clean and Avoid an Infringement

Over the coming months, the Syed and the operations team will be focusing on specific issues to support the safety and cleanliness of the market. The focus is currently on produce being kept outside stores on the Buyers’ Walk.

Please help with pest control and to keep the market clean by packing all produce and equipment away into your store at the end of trade. Market Relations Officers will be issuing infringement notices on businesses who have been given more than one warning. Everyone’s co-operation is appreciated.

Reminder: Activities Requiring Written Approval

If you plan to engage in the below activities, please come and have a chat to Syed, Izzy, Amy or the operations team so we can put appropriate plans in place.

  • Filming on the market premises
  • Pre-registration of any large groups of visitors
  • BBQs or cooking on gas/open flame
  • After-hours deliveries, especially of large items such as furniture
  • Leaving equipment or vehicles in shared spaces on-site

While these may seem like small activities, letting the team know in advance means we can plan for things such as liability insurance, secure storage of goods or any accidental trigger of the fire alarms (which would incur a $3000 fire crew call out fee).

If you have any questions or wish to talk further, please contact Syed on syed.shahed@melbournemarket.com.au
