Restraints Deadline This Friday

A reminder that WorkSafe expects all market-approved vehicles to be fitted with appropriate restraints by 30 June 2023. Once restraints are fitted it is a requirement that these restraints are worn in line with the Market Operating Rules.

Market Relations Officers will be targeting vehicle safety and warnings and infringements may apply for non-compliance. WorkSafe has also indicated they will be visiting businesses within the Market to check compliance.

Thank you to everyone who has already added a restraint to their electric vehicle/s. If you are yet to do so, please ensure all electric vehicles, such as golf buggies and forklifts, regardless of the year of manufacture, are fitted with appropriate restraints before Friday, 30 June.

For any queries regarding the restraint requirements, please contact WorkSafe Victoria on 1800 136 089.

Market Vehicle Registration and Renewal

To ensure all Market vehicles are safe and compliant, they must be registered with the MMA and VicRoads as well as undergo an annual Vehicle Examination Checklist with an approved MMA Service Provider. Similar to a personal vehicle, registration must be renewed annually in conjunction with an annual vehicle examination checklist.

To register a new vehicle please follow the below steps. You can download the Vehicle Pack here, which will provide all the details you need to ensure your vehicle is properly registered.

Registration Steps

To renew the registration of an existing vehicle, please follow the below steps. You will be notified when your vehicle is due for renewal via an email reminder and on your monthly statement the month prior to their expiry dates. This is same expiry date as the VicRoads expiry date.

Renewal Steps – Your vehicle will only be fully registered once all of the below four steps are completed.

Please contact Customer Service with any questions and for further information.

Fire EFS 2 Update – New Location Damoli’s

Investigations regarding the recent fire in EFS 2 are still underway. We will be sure to communicate any relevant findings and advice once it’s received.

While EFS 2 cannot be accessed, Damoli’s has been temporarily relocated to where the National Flower Centre trolleys are currently kept and NFC trolleys will be moved inside the NFC, near stand 699.

The incident is a timely reminder to ensure that the annual Vehicle Examination Checklist for all vehicle types is undertaken and registered with MMA as per the above article.

ABC Retailer of the Year, People’s Choice Award

Congratulations to Australia’s favourite fruit and veg shop, Victoria’s very own Arnolds Fruit Market, who have taken out the 2023 A better choice! Retailer of the Year, People’s Choice Award.

Now running in its 130th year, Arnolds is an institution of the border town of Wodonga.

Not only is Arnolds the Victorian winner for the second consecutive year, but it’s also the first time a Victorian store has taken out first place nationally! This signifies the growth and strength of the A better choice! program in Victoria.

Market Event – Retailer of the Year Award

All Market Users are invited to celebrate Arnolds for being named Australia’s favourite fruit and veg shop as well as the top 10 stores from Victoria. Please join us out the front of Customer Service for a great morning on Thursday, 6 July at 6am.

Using a casual stand on the trading floor?

A reminder to Stand users that occupying a stand other than your licensed stand/s incurs a daily casual fee of $76.85 incl GST. Leaving pallets, stock, forklifts, etc. on a vacant stand (for the trading hours) is considered usage. Please keep within your licensed stand area or you may be subject to a casual fee.

For any questions, or to explore expanding your business with additional stand space, please contact the Property Team on 9258 6140 or property@melbournemarket.com.au

Correct Pallet Disposal

Plain pallets have been identified as a major fire risk and invite rodent infestation when left out, particularly when left behind stores and up against the main building. Because of this, all pallets must be returned to the yellow recycling cages.

There are 26 yellow recycling cages conveniently placed around the market. You can find your nearest yellow recycling cage in the map below marked by a blue X.

If pallets are left behind after morning trade, including in the licenced areas behind stores, they will be removed and taken to one of the cages at a cost to your business.

Children in the Market

Children in the Market is back next week! Children can grab a goodie bag on arrival at Gate 1, which will include a colouring competition, with prizes available. A magician will be roving the Market from 5am on both Tuesday and Wednesday to entertain not only the kids but adults as well.

Please ensure all children are pre-registered, with the completed form returned to Customer Service before the event*.

As well as ensuring children enjoy their time at the market our biggest priority is safety. We ask that children be accompanied by their parent or guardian at all times and for market users to be especially vigilant and conscious that they will be onsite over these two days.

*Please note: All submitted forms will be automatically approved unless you are notified otherwise.
