Market News

The recycling transfer centre is now open!

The new recycling transfer centre, next to Gate 2, is now open.

The new centre will make recycling quicker, easier and more efficient and there are some great ways to reduce your recycling costs too.

Check out our new online calculator

Jump onto the Melbourne Market website and test out our new online calculator. You’ll be able to calculate your estimated disposal fees for general and organic waste and recyclables.

See how much you can save today. Click here to try it out now.

Did you know separating your waste can save more than just your hip pocket?

Maximizing your recycling will minimise your impact on Victoria’s landfil, but it will also save you money. Most clean, separated waste delivered to the centre is free.

You can also reduce the cost of organic waste disposal by recycling organics that are still fit for human consumption to one of our great food redistribution partners.

Visit the new recycling transfer centre during opening week to go in the draw to win a Samsung tablet!

Drop off clean, separated recycling or general waste to our recycling transfer centre between Monday 6 June and Friday 10 June and enter the draw to win a Samsung tablet!

Enter as many times as you like, the more deliveries you do, the more entries you get! Standard disposal fees apply.

Winner drawn Tuesday 14 June and will be announced on the MMA website and in the weekly Market news.

Satellite recycling station

Satellite recycling stations are positioned around the Market and include maxicags and bins for cardboard, general waste, organic wast, polystyrene and plastics.

Satellite stations are not for bulk waste. Bulk waste includes:

  • Anything arriving on a pallet. All waste on a pallet must be taken to the recycling transfer centre.
  • More than one or two polystyrene or cardboard boxes.
  • More than one small box of organic waste.

All bulk waste must be taken to the new recycling transfer centre.

Movement in the Trading Floor

The MMA is now issuing new licences for those stands on the Trading Floor that have become vacant.  When offering a stand licence, the MMA takes into account a number of factors including the licensee’s current allocation and stand location, expression of interest for more stands, usage patterns and timely payment of stand licence fees.

The MMA will be in contact with those stand holders who are being offered a licence for additional stands.

Reminder – parking for buyers after the Queens birthday public holiday.

Buyers with a parking permit to access the Market on a day where a public holiday falls are now able to enter the Market on the following day at no additional cost.

So if you’re a buyer with parking on a Monday and not a Tuesday, you can park at the Market on Tuesday 14 June (the day after the Queens birthday public holiday) without paying the $23 casual parking fee.

If you have a reserved bay, this bay may not be available, please ask a Market Relations Officer who will be able to instruct you on where to park.
