Recycling transfer centre
The new recycling transfer centre, next to Gate 2, is set to open on Monday 6 June.
The new centre will make recycling quicker, easier and more efficient and there are some great ways to reduce your recycling costs too.
Did you know store and warehouse tenants can dispose of bulk recycling for free?
It’s as easy as 1,2,3…
- Pick up a free tote bin from the recycling transfer centre, there is no hire charge.
- Take it back to your premises and fill it with clean separated waste. This can be polystyrene, plastic, cardboard or paper.
- Return it to the recycling transfer centre at no cost.
Please note, small fees apply for organic waste or general waste. Contaminated bins (e.g. cardboard containing organic produce) will be charged as general waste. For a full list of recycling fees visit the MMA website.
Free parking for buyers after a public holiday
Buyers with a parking permit to access the Market on a day where a public holiday falls have been able to enter the Market on the following day upon payment of the $23 casual parking fee.
Going forward, the $23 casual fee will not be applicable in these circumstances (for the day immediately following the public holiday only).
For example, Bob has parking as a buyer on Monday and Thursday. If a public holiday falls on a Monday, Bob can park at the Market on Tuesday (only) at no additional cost.
If you have a reserved bay, this bay may not be available, please ask a Market Relations Officer who will be able to instruct you on where to park. The MMA is investigating options to improve this arrangement.

Maintenance report
Line marking of curbs
Over the coming weeks, line marking of curbs around the warehouse precinct will occur. The line marking is a result of feedback from Market users to increase visibility of the curbs in low light, reducing the risk of roll over. Line marking will occur during the day and is not anticipated to impact Market operations.
If you’d like further information about this maintenance contact the Help Desk 24/7 on 0437 006 459.
Reminder – forklift cross over maintenance occurring this week
Reminder for all forklift drivers, the second stage maintenance of the undercover forklift route that runs North to South through the centre of the trading stands (T2) will occur this week from Wednesday 25 May to Sunday 29 May from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
This work will remove the final bump that occurs at the end of the covered section of the route where the concrete meets the asphalt.
During this time, forklifts will not be able to use this route. Keep a look out for the directional signs, or ask a Market Relations Officer.
These works will smooth the forklift route, minimising the risk of accidents and loss of produce.
