Join the Occupational Health, Safety and Environment committee

Are you passionate about workplace health and safety? The MMA is establishing a joint Occupational Health, Safety and Environment committee, which will meet quarterly. We are looking for 12 committee members, which would include representatives from all areas and levels within the Market. Deep clean of Buyer’s Walk extended

The deep clean of the Buyers’ Walk is being extended for one more week until Friday 25 May. The heavy-duty machinery will be used daily after 11:30am from Monday 21 May through to Friday 25 May. To improve the quality of the floor finish and provide a cleaner Market for everyone, it was identified a second run was required. We thank you again for your tolerance during this period and apologise for any disruption caused. Australian’s can’t get enough of Avocados!

Amid a bumper season and strong growth in consumer demand, growers have pushed the button on an innovative $2.4M ‘Smash an Avo’ marketing campaign. Featuring television advertising and a strong digital push, the new ‘Smash an Avo’ campaign highlights what people love about the fruit. Australian consumers are enjoying more avocados than ever with consumption rates more than doubling from 40,000 tonnes in 2007 to almost 90,000 tonnes today. The melon industry has suffered serious losses and a downturn in sales since the listeria incident in February. In an effort to assist the industry get back on its feet, The Ringer, a long-time loyal friend of the melon industry has asked consumers to get behind the industry. They have created an amusing video which you can view on YouTube or share from the Melbourne Market Facebook page. Get behind the melon industry and ‘share’!
