Christmas Eve Market access for buyers

Previous correspondence regarding Christmas trading hours noted that the Fruit and Vegetable Market will be closed on Saturday 24 December with access for buyers to collect pre-ordered produce between 4:00am and 6:00am only.

After receiving feedback from the Market community, we would like to clarify the process for collection of orders on Christmas Eve.

  • Buyers can enter the Market on Saturday 24 December to collect pre-ordered stock as arranged with your supplier at any time (not only between 4:00am and 6:00am as previously noted).
  • The Buyers’ Walk and Trading Floor will not be open for trade.
  • Park in your regular parking bay, if it’s not available, park a nearby vacant bay or seek instructions on where to park from a Market Relations Officer.
  • The Flower Market will be trading business as usual on Saturday morning.

Full details on the Christmas and New Year trading Hours are available on the Melbourne Market website. Click here to view now.

Free testing and tagging for Market users – Reminder

The MMA will be providing FREE testing and tagging for all Market store and stand holders this Friday 9 December after trade. Any electrical items left in common areas of the trading floor building or out the front of store tenancies or on trading stands will be inspected, tested and tagged by our authorised electrician at no cost.

Alternatively if you don’t want to leave your item out, the electricians will be available between 7:00am – 8:00am outside the rear of the Customer Service Centre to test electrical items (first in best dressed).

If you don’t want your items tested and tagged, pack them away at the end of trade into your store tenancy or take away with you at the end of trade. Alternatively download and affix this label to the items you do not want tested and tagged.

Vegetable Strategic Investment Plan: Online survey available for comment.

As part of the process for producing a new Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) for the vegetable industry, Horticulture Innovation Australia has engaged specialist consulting firm Consulting & Implementation Services (CIS). As part of this process CIS will seek industry feedback to ensure the SIP accurately reflects how to best spend the Vegetable R&D levy to maximise the industry’s funding priorities for the next five years.
As well as hosting grower workshops around the country, CIS has developed a short online survey for growers and industry members to provide feedback on what they think the opportunities are for the vegetable industry in next five years (it only takes about 10 minutes to complete).
It is important that we get as many growers providing feedback as we can, so please complete this survey and have your say on the industry’s funding priorities for the R&D levy.
