Day Australia’s national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that every day is the day to ask, “Are you OK?” and support those struggling with life’s ups and downs. People can face many challenges and pressures that can bottle up over time, including financial pressures, intense physical demands, workplace injuries, relationship breakdowns and many others. These can have a significant impact on mental and emotional wellbeing. Men, in particular, are often faced with a ‘harden up’ attitude and fear of being judged as weak when it comes to opening up about mental health. It’s important to ask the question, “Are you OK?” if someone seems to be doing it tough. A conversation could change a life, so start one today. ALEC talks us through how to ask R U OK? at Work. Deliveroo is helping our customers to make ‘A better choice’! At a time of lockdowns around the country and a move to more online purchasing, ‘A better choice!’ has worked hard and negotiated with delivery giant Deliveroo to provide a discounted delivery service to all members. We know consumer shopping habits have changed a lot, especially since the start of the pandemic, so this partnership will allow ‘A better choice!’ members to deliver to their loyal customers, even when they can’t see them in person. Some stores may already have delivery services or online platforms, but for those who don’t or those who want to offer their goods to an established platform with a large existing customer database, this partnership will enable you to do so quickly and at reduced fees. With no onboarding costs, 0% commission for the first month and a low ongoing rate of 22% for ‘A better choice!’ members, this is a significant discount on their standard offering! ‘A better choice!’ members will have the opportunity to opt-in to start contactless selling right from their store! Adrian has been driven to raise money for the cause because, like so many of us, his family has been impacted by cancer. Cancer is the largest killer of children from disease in Australia – 3 children die of cancer every week! “Kids should be living life, not fighting for it,” Adrian said. Adrian’s goal is to ride 800 km and raise $1000, but if he can raise $1500 in donations, he will increase his cycling goal to 1000km; that’s the equivalent of riding from the Melbourne Market to Newcastle, NSW! Let’s keep Adrian peddling throughout October! Go to https://greatcyclechallenge.com.au/Riders/AdrianGifford/d to support Adrian, donate, and join him in fighting kids’ cancer! All funds raised will support the Children’s Medical Research Institute to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer. Market Barber Coming Soon… Hairstyles and beards will soon be looking sharper and more stylish around the market, with an onsite barber being the latest service about to be offered to market users. The top five fundraisers earned themselves a beautiful fruit hamper donated by the Melbourne Market that was beautifully put together by Henrys Mercato. Well done! Industry News Fair Work Ombudsman to examine horticulture employment practices in coming months Horticulture will be in the crosshairs of the Fair Work Ombudsman over the next 12 months. The sector has been identified as a “strategic priority”, along with the cleaning industry, fast food, restaurants and cafes. Speaking at a Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) roundtable meeting in July, Fair Work Ombudsman Sandra Parker said the impacts of COVID-19 had raised concerns for workers.”The horticulture sector, which has a track record of significant non-compliance, also remains a priority with its reliance on visa holders who may be exploited and complex labour supply chains,” Ms Parker said.
