Men’s Health Month

Did you know, men will die on average 4.5 years earlier than women, and for reasons that are largely preventable. Which means that it doesn’t have to be that way: we can all take action to live healthier, happier and longer lives.During November we’ll be shining a light on men’s health issues.

How can we take action? Here are our top 5 things to know and do.

1. Spend time with people who make you feel good.
Stay connected. Your mates are important and spending time with them is good for you.

2. Talk, more.
You don’t need to be an expert and you don’t have to be the sole solution, but being there for someone can be life-saving.

3. Know the numbers.
At 50, talk to your doctor about prostate cancer and whether it’s right for you to have a PSA test. Know your numbers, know your risk, talk to your doctor.

4. Know thy nuts, simple.
Testicular cancer is the #1 cancer among young men. Check them regularly and go to the doctor if something doesn’t feel right.

5. Move, more.
Add more activity to your day. Take a walking meeting, park further away from the shops, take the stairs, cycle instead of driving.

Remembrance Day

On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minute’s silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation. November 11, is the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting with Germany in World War I.On Remembrance Day, you can pause with other Australians at 11am to remember the service and sacrifice of those who have lost their lives in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

Violence has no home in the Market

We all want a Melbourne Market we are proud of, an environment where we would be proud for our sons, daughters, partners, and parents to be involved. Nobody deserves to come to work in an environment where they are subject to violent or aggressive behaviour.

Shoving, threatening, punching, making intimidating statements, damaging a person’s produce, or using equipment like a forklift to intimidate others, are all acts of violence.

Have you been the victim of violent behaviour in the market?
If you would like to seek support, confidentially discuss or report an issue relating to racism, sexism, violence, bullying or harassment in the Melbourne Market, please email or call 0448 413 098.

Please visit the Stronger Together website for further information and support.

Snake sightings

As we approach warmer weather snake sightings are more likely to occur. We ask all Market users to exercise extreme caution when on-site.

If you see a snake, follow these steps:

1. DON’T try to touch or catch the snake
2. DON’T try to chase the snake away
3. DON’T try to kill the snake – It is illegal and dangerous
1. Immediately call 0408 334 555
(24/7 Security Line)
2. Move people away from the area
3. Watch the snake from a safe distance
