One-way traffic on Trading Floor to Improve Safety

From Monday, 6 June, major traffic changes will be implemented on the Trading Floor to improve safety and logistical efficiency.

The three long vehicle lanes running between Customer Service and the Flower Market will become one way only.

The two outer lanes will run one way from west to east (from Customer Service toward the Flower Market), while the middle lane will run east to west (from the Flower Market toward Customer Service). The cross over lanes (T1, T2 and T3) will remain two-way, allowing easy access to move throughout the Trading Floor.

The video below illustrates the new traffic flow.

Traffic bollards will be in place, and Market Relations Officers will be stationed at the main intersections with traffic wands, to assist drivers in adjusting to the directional changes.

The MMA has engaged experienced traffic management experts, Impact Traffic Engineering, to assist in designing safer traffic plans within the market. The initiative will begin as a trial for three months, after which, it will be assessed in consultation with advisory committee members and other key market stakeholders.

Business Principals should ensure all staff, especially forklift drivers, are briefed on the changes before implementation on 6 June.

If you have any questions, please speak to a Market Relations Officer. We thank you for your support in making the Melbourne Market a safer place for everyone.

Heartkids Hero Day – Save the Date!

Save the date for HeartKids Hero Day at the Market!

Did you know a baby is born every 3 hours with a life-changing heart defect? This is your opportunity to support the charity that helps these children throughout their lifelong and often challenging journey.

Melbourne Market Hero Day, which coincides with one of our ‘Children in the Market’ days will run from 5am – 7.30am on Wednesday, 29 June. The event will include entertainment for market users and their children alike, such as celebrity guests, superhero appearances, a magician, a handball competition, breakfast, auctions and raffles; all to raise funds for a worthy cause.

Market Advisory Committee Meetings
The next market advisory committee meetings are running this week. You can ask your advisory committee members to raise questions or ideas with the MMA.

Advisory committees work with the Melbourne Market Authority to advise on matters relating to Market operations and the fresh produce industry. Committee members are a great source of information and advice for Market users. To find out who the members of the advisory committees are, please visit the MMA website.

Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday

The market will be closed on Monday, 13 June for the Queen’s Birthday public holiday.
If your parking permit only allows access on a day that falls on a public holiday, and you would like to come to the Market on an alternative adjacent day, you will not be charged for parking and can enter the Market. However, your regular bay may not be available. Please see a Market Relations Officer on arrival for instruction.

Traffic Barriers now in place
As previously communicated, traffic barriers are now place at both points of the east side crossover exits between the Buyer’s Walk and undercover carpark canopies (see image below). This safety initiative will be in place for a three-month trial and aims to make the pedestrian crossings at the exits safer for everyone by preventing forklifts from cutting through.

If you have any questions, please speak to a Market Relations Officer. We thank you for your support in making the Melbourne Market a safer place for everyone.
