Vaccination & Access Cards Update
As per Government mandates, the deadline for authorised workers to be double vaccinated passed last Friday, 26 November. This means that all workers at the Melbourne Market must now be fully vaccinated to enter the site (unless a valid exemption applies).
Government enforcement officers have already attended the market several times to check the vaccination status of employees of several businesses, and this will continue into the foreseeable future.
All visitors to the Melbourne Market are subject to the same rules and will not be able to sign in at gate 1 and enter the site without proof of vaccination.
Access card checks are helping ensure the Melbourne Market is a safe and fair place to conduct businesses, and these checks will continue on a random basis until the end of the year. Again, we thank you for your patience as we continue these checks.
Christmas Trading Hours
The Melbourne Market, including the Flower Market, will be closed on public holidays during the Christmas – New Year period. Buyers will have access to the Melbourne Market on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December to collect pre-arranged produce orders only. It is important to remember the buyers’ walk, trading floor, and flower market will be closed, as these are not mandatory trading days. Some wholesalers and warehouse tenants may allow access to their premises for buyers who have made individual arrangements to collect produce.
Youth Sports Initiative Winners presentations
Over the past two weeks, we have had the pleasure of helping grow tomorrows champions. A better choice! has presented several of the Youth Sports Initiative winners with a sporting sponsorship to the value of $500.
The campaign has supported a range of different sporting clubs across Victoria from local lifesaving nippers programs, youth basketball, little athletics, tennis, roller derby, soccer, football, netball clubs, golfers and more. The sporting clubs awarded with the sponsorships have reported they are using the much-needed funds to support operations, provide shading, and purchase new equipment.
Participating A better choice! retailers have welcomed the opportunity to find another way to be part of the local community, recognising and supporting local sporting clubs.
To date, the following Victorian A better choice! retailers have presented sponsorships:
Alexandra Fruit & Veg presented to Alexandra Rebels Football & Netball
La Manna Fresh presented to Moonee Valley Knights Soccer Club
Monty Fresh presented to Diamond Creek Tennis Club
Sculli Bros presented to Wildcats Basketball Team
Wattle Park Greengrocer presented to Whitehorse Colts Palaminos Netball club
Henry Mercato Bayside presented to Seaford Little Athletics Club
With more sponsorships to be handed over in the coming weeks, the campaign really has shown again that shopping at your local independent retailer really is a better choice.
Men’s Health Awareness Month
November is a time of year to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and men’s suicide; made more prevalent in the last decade with the Movember movement.
To finish our month of focussing on men’s health, we wanted to share 5 things to know and do when it comes to your health and the health of other men in your life.
Stay Connected – Spend time with people who make you feel good
Talk, more – You don’t need to be an expert, rather just be there for someone, listening
Know the numbers – At 50, talk to your doctor about prostate cancer
Get to know what’s normal for your testicles – Check them regularly and go to the doctor if something doesn’t feel right
Move more – Add more activity to your day and do more of what makes you feel good
For more information on men’s health issues, visit Movember.

Australian vegetable exports resilient, despite ongoing challenges
