Anzac Day BBQ Success

Last Friday, the Melbourne Market community proved yet again what a generous bunch they are, with the Epping RSL raising $3,268.50 for the 2021 Anzac Appeal in a single morning.

The MMA hosted a free BBQ in the market to commemorate Anzac Day but invited members of the local Epping RSL branch to sell ANZAC pins and rattle their tins.

There were plenty of sausages making their way around the market on Friday, and you may have even had your’s delivered to your door.

We had quite a few leftovers at the end of the morning, so all uncooked sausages and bread were donated to Epping RSL, allowing them to raise even more money during their services on Sunday.

Thank you to all those who donated on the day, 100% of the funds raised go towards helping veterans in need.

Special thanks to Produce of Virginia and Tasty Chips, who donated bread and onions.

Farewell, Harry Huyskens

Being born into a farming family, there is no surprise Harry Huyskens has spent his life in the fresh produce industry; fruit and veg run through his veins. But after a lifetime working in the industry, Harry is retiring this Friday to embark on the next phase of his life.

Harry began his career as soon as he completed school,  working on the family potato farm. From there, his career has taken him on a journey from the farm to casually running stands at the Footscray Market through to now retiring as co-owner of successful wholesaling businesses, Cranborne Valley Produce and Meadow Hills Marketing.

Harry has spent the last 22 years at the helm of the wholesaling businesses and admits there have been good years and bad years, but particularly remembers the old days in the Footscray Market fondly, “Give me the old days any time, we had a lot of fun in those days.” And like most people reflecting on their time at the Melbourne Market, Harry agrees that it is the people that he will miss the most.
Upon retirement, Harry is looking forward to enjoying the simple things; slowing down, socialising with friends, spending time with family (particularly the grandkids!), and embarking on some travel.

The MMA would like to thank Harry for his leadership and contribution to the industry, particularly over the last two and a half years, while serving as Chairman of the Growers Advisory Committee.

Harry’s last day in the Market will be this Friday, be sure to stop by the stand and join us in wishing him all the best for the future.

New tenant joins the Melbourne Market

Meet Kulwant Sigh Dhoot, Director and Business Development Manager for Biima Insurance.

Who is BIIMA?
BIIMA is a Melbourne based insurance broking business. We provide insurance solutions to our domestic and corporate clients.

Why use a BIIMER – a BIIMA broker
There are so many insurance companies in the marketplace. It is extremely hard for you to know which one provides the best value for your money and suits your needs and requirements.

As a BIIMA broker, we do not sell insurance – we educate our clients and assist our clients in “buying” the right insurance and managing it. Whether it’s home, car, or business insurance, a qualified BIIMA insurance broker can save you time and money by helping you get what you need to protect yourself, your business and your dreams.

BIIMA can help you by:

  • Providing insurance policies with broader insurance coverage that are not directly available to the public
  • Provide face to face service to our clients, where necessary
  • Educate clients with the associated risks within their industry, and tailor a solution to make sure those risks are covered
  • We do “the shopping for you”, searching for a policy to suit your needs, saving you time and money

Contact BIIMA insurance brokers to discuss how we can assist you in buying insurances for you and your business.

Drug and Alcohol policies protect your employees and your business

Having a fair and effective drug and alcohol policy is at the core of creating a drug-free environment, one that ensures people come to work unaffected by drugs or alcohol.

It’s critical market businesses have a drug and alcohol policy in place, and review it as and when new requirements are imposed by the courts.

A hot button issue is the Chain of Responsibility (CoR) law, this makes every business in a supply chain responsible for creating a safe operating environment. Companies and their directors have a legal duty to ensure their business is cultivating safety and not pressuring employees into making unsafe decisions.

From 1st May, TDDA (The drug detection agency) will become a tenant in the market administration building. TDDA designed drug and alcohol policies to comply with the latest laws, and they have helped thousands of Australasian companies implement, or evolve, existing policies — offering a turn-key program that is tailored to meet specific needs and requirements.

As well as helping market businesses implement drug and alcohol policies, TDDA will occupy an office onsite that has been fitted out to provide high-quality testing services to market businesses.

You can connect with TDDA General Manager Michael Pivac on LinkedIn or visit TDDA.com.
