Market News
Protecting the fresh produce supply chain

With COVID cases increasing rapidly across Australia, the MMA encourages all market users to follow COVIDSafe practices. If not to protect your own health and your family’s health, then to reduce infection rates, allowing more people to continue to work to keep businesses open and operational.
The simplest way you can reduce the risk of COVID infection is by wearing a face mask indoors while at the market.

Tune in for the next episode of Everyday Gourmet

The sights and sounds of the Melbourne Market will feature on Channel 10 again later this week when Everyday Gourmet with Justine Schofield airs the second segment in our ten-part series, this Friday, 29 July at 4pm. Tune in to see Justine learn about the variety of high-quality produce that services Victoria’s hospitality sector.

Be sure to keep an eye out on our social media channels to find out when other future episodes will air.

Win a Holiday promotion – That’s a wrap!

Thanks again to all of the fantastic Victorian retailers who participated in the national Win a Holiday! promotion.
Victoria had 157 stores nominated in the campaign and almost 6,000 competition entries, outperforming all other states.
Congratulations to the team at Queen’s Harvest and their lucky customer, who was our week ten winner of a $500 Webjet Voucher! Winning stores have loved presenting their customers with the $500 vouchers and then sharing the great news on their social pages – and with a smile from week two’s winner from Palamara Village Fruits, who wouldn’t?

The $2,500 Major Prize has yet to be announced, and we’re all excited to see which store will be able to award their customer with the fantastic prize when it’s drawn on Wednesday, August 3rd, in conjunction with the Retailer of the Year award.

Zespri TV Giveaway
The celebration of kiwi fruit season is continuing, and we are loving different displays from our retailers, including Mez from Fruits of Envy.
Don’t forget that by sharing your display on social media with the hashtag #shopforsungold, retailers can be in the running to win one of four 75inch Samsung TV’s! If you would like to organise a Zespri display for your store, contact Zac today.

Creating a more inclusive Melbourne Market As previously communicated, the Melbourne Market Authority is launching a new market-wide initiative to look at our culture to create a more inclusive and respectful Melbourne Market for everyone, where people are proud to work and trade.

We invite you to participate in this future vision of the Melbourne Market. We’re looking for a range of people, from business principals to employees, sellers and buyers alike, to volunteer to join a working group that will lead this cultural change with the MMA. Our working group members will come together for an hour once every 8-10 weeks to share advice and perspectives and test ideas to develop the strategy. Ultimately, we want your input in setting the goals and objectives that will create a more inclusive Melbourne Market.

If you are interested in learning more or getting involved in this important project, please email submissions@kevin

THINK SAFETY
WEAR A SEATBELT IN ALL VEHICLES

For your own safety, ensure your seatbelt is correctly secured when driving forklifts, trucks and passenger vehicles.

ABC News Breakfast
It was great to have ABC News Breakfast out last week following the ‘lifecycle of a lettuce’ in the fresh produce supply chain.
Thanks to Ricky Mazaris, Thanh Truong, Graham Gee and the team from Gazzola Farms for their help and insights in explaining the recent pressures on the supply chain – particularly since the interviews were LIVE on air (no pressure or anything…)

Keen to help out with future media opportunities?
The MMA is often approached by print and broadcast media for comments concerning the fresh produce supply chain – usually at very short notice.
If you or your business are interested in helping us respond to media queries, please contact MMA Communications Manager, Lauren Kitchener to be added to a list of potential contacts.
