Melbourne Market Open Day

The MMA will be hosting a Melbourne Market Open Day on Thursday, 5 May 5am – 8am. The Open Day is an exciting opportunity for those working in the hospitality, fresh produce and flower industries to come and experience everything the Melbourne Market has to offer.

From 5am onwards, you can expect to see members of the general public on a market tour, learning how they can access the widest range of fresh produce and cut flowers in Victoria.

If someone within your network would like to see the market, we have allocated spaces for those within the market community, simply forward this link and have them complete the registration form.

TDDA Drug & Alcohol Awareness Workshop


The Drug Detection Agency (TDDA) will be conducting a 3.5-hour comprehensive workshop designed to provide managers and supervisors with the right tools to successfully identify and deal with situations arising from drug and alcohol use/abuse in the workplace.

Who should attend this training workshop?
All managers, team leaders and supervisors who have a responsibility for the safety of persons in the workplace.

Room: Conference Room
When: Friday, 13th May 2022
Time: Arrival from 8:30am for a 9am start
Duration: 3.5 hours
Provided: Morning tea

National Banana Day

Many people love bananas! There are over five million banana’s consumed by Australians every day.

New Campaign – Win a Holiday!

A better choice! is excited to announce our next big campaign, which is designed to reward customers who choose to shop at independent fruit and veg shops with holiday vouchers. From May, those who shop local can enter by scanning a QR code in-store, with a weekly winner randomly drawn over 10 weeks. Entrants will also nominate their participating store, resulting in 1 point per entry towards the Retailer of the Year Award.

What can retailers do?
Display the collateral sent to you in high-traffic areas of the store where customers can easily see and scan the QR codes. Take pictures and share stories to the A better choice! national audience to gain more exposure for your store.

Designated roadways have been set out to ensure pedestrian and market user safety. Forklift drivers must stick to these roadways and allow pedestrians at crosswalks to cross safely.

Horticulture traineeship program launched by Victorian government to train more workers on farm


The Victorian Government will spend $600,000 on a pilot program to allow workers to undertake traineeships in horticulture or agriculture while working on farms.

The program will be trialled at three sites across regional Victoria and the industry hopes the program will show people there are more career opportunities in horticulture than picking fruit

Northside Fruit & Veg – Fresh Produce Buyer
Due to our rapid expansion, Northside Fruit & Veg is seeking a passionate and energetic Fresh Produce Buyer for the night shift role. This is a critical and autonomous role with the majority of time spent in the market.

Reporting to the Director, the Fresh Produce Buyer is responsible for:

Daily purchasing of produce
Communicating market updates, trends and fluctuations to the team.

Ideally, the successful applicant will have:
Strong understanding of fresh produce including varieties, quality and produce seasonality 
Strong negotiating skills.
