One-way traffic on Trading Floor to Improve Safety

From Monday, 6 June, major traffic changes will be implemented on the Trading Floor to improve safety and logistical efficiency.

The three long vehicle lanes running between Customer Service and the Flower Market will become one way only.

The two outer lanes will run one way from west to east (from Customer Service toward the Flower Market), while the middle lane will run east to west (from the Flower Market toward Customer Service). The cross over lanes (T1, T2 and T3) will remain two-way, allowing easy access to move throughout the Trading Floor.

The diagram below illustrates the new traffic flow.

Traffic bollards will be in place, and Market Relations Officers will be stationed at the main intersections with traffic wands, to assist drivers in adjusting to the directional changes.

The MMA has engaged experienced traffic management experts, Impact Traffic Engineering, to assist in designing safer traffic plans within the market. The initiative will begin as a trial for three months, after which, it will be assessed in consultation with advisory committee members and other key market stakeholders.

Business Principals should ensure all staff, especially forklift drivers, are briefed on the changes before implementation on 6 June.

If you have any questions, please speak to a Market Relations Officer. We thank you for your support in making the Melbourne Market a safer place for everyone.

Heartkids Hero Day – Save the Date!

Save the date for the next Children in the Market event during Term 2 school holidays in June!
In conjunction with Heartkids and VFS, Wednesday, 29 June, will be the Heartkids Hero Day, raising awareness for the real heroes – the children and families impacted by congenital or childhood acquired heart disease.

The fundraiser will include activities, entertainment, superheroes, breakfast, and many fantastic prizes to be auctioned off, with all proceeds going to Heartkids.Traffic Barriers now in placeAs previously communicated, traffic barriers are now place at both points of the east side crossover exits between the Buyer’s Walk and undercover carpark canopies (see image below). This safety initiative will be in place for a three-month trial and aims to prevent forklifts from cutting through the pedestrian crossings and parking bays in low visibility areas.

Please speak to a Market Relations Officer if you have any questions.

THINK SAFETYSTAY OFF YOUR PHONE WHILE OPERATING A VEHICLE

Distractions are dangerous. Use of a mobile or similar handheld device while operating a forklift or other Market-specific vehicle is prohibited, this includes scrolling though social media and sending SMS’s, not just voice calls.

When Mr Primerano of Buffalo Creek Orchards started growing persimmons 16 years ago, he said he couldn’t sell them for enough to cover costs of growing.

Now the farm’s main income is persimmons, with more than 3,000 trees growing between 100-125 tonnes a year.Click here to find out more.
