Updated Melbourne Market Operating Rules

The MMA recently undertook a review of the site Operating Rules and has made changes to improve the health, safety and overall operation of the Melbourne Market.

Businesses and Market users must familiarise themselves with the changes. The complete updated Operating Rules can be found online.

The changes include increased ‘demerit points’ to the following rules:

– Operating Rule 4 – Conduct on Market Land
– Operating Rule 9 – Vehicle, Road & Traffic Management
– Operating Rule 10 – Specific Vehicle Restrictions
– Operating Rule 12 – Workplace Health & Safety

In addition, there is a new operating rule relating to forklifts and other ‘Approved Vehicles’:

Operating Rule 10.1 Forklift and Market Approved Vehicles
A Person on Market Land must not:
(c) operate or drive a forklift or Market Approved Vehicle:
       vi) carrying a load that exceeds the height or capacity of forklifts data plate;

(f) Operate use a Forklift to tow without prior written approval of the manufacturer and the MMA.

All operating rule changes come into effect as of 1 September 2022.

Should you have any questions, please contact Rob Rotondi, Operations Manager on 03 9258 6169 or Amy Dyer, Assistant Operations Manager on 03 9258 6128.

Light Replacement Works
Commencing Monday, 22 August until Friday, 26 August between the hours of 10am – 4pm lighting replacement within car parks will begin. Traffic along Badalya Road will have one lane blocked off and traffic redirected to the left-hand side lane allowing enough time to move over.

Please advise any staff that may be affected and observe all road safety signage during these times.

Foodbank Donations
This is Dec, he is really passionate about reducing waste and feeding people.

As the Food Sourcing co-ordinator for Foodbank Victoria, Dec is seeing the pressures of cost of living hikes impacting vulnerable families. Foodbank is now feeding the equivalent of a crowded MCG every two days and finding it tougher and tougher to source enough food for the growing number of Victorians who can’t feed their families.

How can you help Victorians doing it tough? By reaching out to Dec and donating fresh produce.

If you have food that will last and is safe to eat, drop it off at the Foodbank stand next to Store 148. Alternatively, if you know anyone that Dec should be talking to, just give him a call – he’s at the market every Tuesday and Thursday. If you donate food today, Dec can have it on the table of a struggling family tomorrow!

The following Market areas will be affected:

– Buyer’s Walk
– Trading Floor
– National Flower Centre
– Admin Building
– Diesel Station
– LPG Station – North & South
– Waste Transfer Station
– Loading West/ North/ South

During the shutdown, premises will be without power supply, including cooling/refrigeration.
