Santa’s coming to town for flood-affected growers this Christmas

The MMA, Fresh State and A better choice! have kicked off the fundraiser with a combined $30,000 for flood-affected fruit and vegetable growers this festive season – but we need your help too!

The Melbourne Market donation page is live. Funds donated to GIVIT will provide immediate relief items such as food, groceries, clothing, petrol, hardware and housing to help growers recover from the devastating flooding. Click here to donate via GIVIT now

A core part of GIVIT’s philosophy is to help those directly affected by the floods and the wider local community, so where possible, donated funds are spent at local retailers, who employ local people, providing opportunity and lifeblood to small towns.

Funds will be distributed to growers in the following high-impact flood areas, which represent some of the most essential Victorian growing regions.

For those that don’t get a chance to donate online, Santa will be visiting the Market this Thursday, 22 December, to spread some festive cheer and collect donations from the market community.

Advisory Committee meetings held earlier this month
At the beginning of December the Wholesalers, Growers and Retailers Advisory Committees met with the MMA to provide advice and discuss matters relating to Market operations and the fresh produce industry.

Key themes discussed by the groups during December included the cleaning of the site, improving the culture of the Market, gate 1 traffic management, a new Melbourne Market mobile phone app, an overview of the recent A better choice! campaigns and more.

Speaking to your advisory committee members is an effective way to raise key issues with the MMA.

For a full list of Advisory Committee members and to view minutes from previous meetings, visit the MMA website.

It is important to remember the Buyers’ Walk, Trading Floor, and Flower Market will be closed, as these are not mandatory trading days.
