Covid Update – Vaccination Hub

Getting your vaccination: No booking is required; vaccinations will be administered via a walk-in service. You will need to bring your medicare card and a form of photo ID with you.

Bardee Food Waste Management Solution

The MMA continues to source innovative solutions to improve organic waste solutions in the market while ensuring costs do not affect businesses.

Bardee is a fast-growing company helping to make agriculture more sustainable, by diverting food waste from landfill and using it to create fertilisers. And it makes a real difference because every tonne of food waste diverted from landfill creates 1,900kg of CO2 offsets!

Bardee is now partnering with the Melbourne Market, collecting organic waste and turning it into protein products that can then be used as fertilisers, which are then available for purchase by Melbourne Market growers at a discounted price.

To learn more about how you can purchase Bardee fertilisers and complete the sustainability circle please contact Hannah Johnston.

Shot blasting of forklift crossovers to improve safety
If you are in the market on Wednesday, 3 August between 9am – 4pm, please be aware that shot blasting of the concrete floor on the Buyer’s Walk at forklift crossover points A, B, C, D, E will occur. Each forklift entry/exit point will be closed and there will be potential high-level noise disruptions. Shot blasting creates a surface which reduces slipping and skidding of forklifts, particularly in wet weather.

Line marking will be re-painted on Thursday, 4 August and Friday, 5 August between 9am – 4pm.

Australian avocado industry faces “avolanche”

Australian avocado production has exploded in the past 12 months and growing consumption and exports will be the key to managing oversupply according to a new report from Rabobank.

Rabobank said a significant maturing of avocado trees in the past season has resulted in a bumper crop, causing a national oversupply and seeing retail prices fall to a record low of A$1 each in June 2021 and again in July 2022. Click here to find out more.
