Market News
Austin Health coming back to the Melbourne Market for second Pfizer doses

Throughout the past three weeks, the most common question related to the Vaccination Hub has been, ‘Will Austin Health return to administer second doses?‘ Since beginning our campaign to get a vaccination clinic on-site, the MMA has advocated for this outcome.

We are pleased that the Department of Health has confirmed Austin Health will return to the Melbourne Market to administer second-dose Pfizer vaccinations from Monday, 11 October

There is significant demand for vaccines across Victoria, with many large worksites, businesses and schools looking to roll out on-site vaccinations. Because of this, our second doses will run a little different, with Austin Health coming back on site for a one-week ‘mega-blitz’.

The Melbourne Market Vaccination Hub will open each morning from 5 am – 12 pm from Monday 11 October to Friday 15 October

Submit your questions
Over the coming week, we will be compiling a frequently asked questions document to share with the market community and invite market users to submit any questions they have about second Pfizer doses to submissions@melbournmarket.com.au for us to include in our communications.

Market Community thanks Austin Health staff
With 3,009 Pfizer vaccinations administered on-site over 15 days, the Melbourne Market Vaccination Hub has so far been a great success.
Well done to the market community for coming out in force and rolling up your sleeves to get the jab.

It could not have been possible if not for the hard work of the clinicians from Austin Health who came to us to make vaccination as easy as possible. In addition, we have had much positive feedback about how helpful and friendly the nursing staff have been. Upon closure of the Vaccination Hub last Friday, we were happy to provide the nurses with a real treat, an array of free fruits and vegetables set up in Art & Style for the Austin Health team to fill their bags with to take home. Thank you to those businesses who donated produce.

Securing a vaccination clinic on-site took the MMA several months of advocating on behalf of our market community, so we are proud that so many people took up the offer of on-site vaccination. It confirms your amazing commitment to protecting your loved ones, your businesses and the fresh produce supply chain.

The Melbourne Market Vaccination Hub was one of the first of its kind for industry, and due to its success, the Department of Health is now looking to replicate a similar model for other on-site vaccination clinics.

Grand Final Public Holiday

While the AFL grand final is leaving Victoria for a second year in a row, at least Victorians will still get to enjoy a public holiday to mark the event.

The market will be closed on Friday 24 September for the AFL grand final public holiday.
If your parking permit only allows access on a day that falls on a public holiday, and you would like to come to the market on an alternative adjacent day, you will not be charged for parking and can enter the market. However, your regular bay may not be available. Please see a Market Relations Officer on arrival for instruction.

Deliveroo is helping our customers to make ‘A better choice’!

As announced last week, the A better choice! team has worked hard and negotiated with delivery giant Deliveroo to provide a discounted delivery service to all members. There has been a fantastic response to the offer from A better choice! retailers so far, and why wouldn’t there be? With no onboarding costs, 0% commission for the first month and a low ongoing rate of 22% for members, this is an unbelievable discount on Deliveroo’s standard offering!

Some stores may already have delivery services or online platforms, but for those who don’t, or those who want to offer their goods to an established platform with a large existing customer database, this partnership will enable you to do so quickly and at reduced fees.

So what are you waiting for? Click the button below and start contactless selling right from your store! Click here to learn more about Deliveroo

Advisory committee meetings

Last week all four market advisory committees met with MMA Management to discuss relevant market issues.
The MMA provided updates on key projects and initiatives such as the COVID-19 vaccination hub, solar canopy build, cafe relocation, A better choice! program, the new MMA customer portal, and more.

The key area of discussion in all four meetings was safety in the market.

The MMA, with support from Fresh State and Toyota Material Handling, confirmed we will be forming a new OH&S committee with key representatives from all areas of the market.
To learn more about the new OHS committee and how you can become involved, speak to David Whitchelo, david.whitchelo@melbournemarket.com.au

Minutes from all advisory committee meetings are publically available for market users to view on the MMA website.
Go to www.melbournemarket.com.au/advisory-committees/.

Speaking to your advisory committee members is an effective way you can raise key issues with the MMA.
