Market News

Latest Coronavirus (COVID-19) information
Market users are reminded that they must continue to follow COVID rules at all times.

As of 11 October, updated face-covering rules came into effect.
All Victorians must wear a fitted face mask when they leave home, no matter where they live.

As directed by the Chief Health Officer, face shields, bandanas, scarves, loose snoods, loose buffs or loose gaiters, are no longer considered a sufficient face covering and cannot be worn on their own. These rules apply when you are onsite at the Melbourne Market.

Further information about the changes to face-covering rules, including an in-depth list of frequently asked questions can be found on the DHHS website at, dhhs.vic.gov.au/face-masks-vic-covid-19.

Market users who do not follow COVID rules, including those relating to face mask rules, will be penalised.

Under Operating Rule 12(b), A Person on Market Land must comply with the OH&S Plan and all relevant OH&S Requirements at all times; therefore any person found deliberately breaking social distancing rules, or, not wearing an appropriate face mask will be subject the following penalties:

1st offence – Warning that is recorded in a Market user’s file
2nd offence – 24-hour suspension from the Market*
3rd offence – 48-hour suspension from the Market*
4th offence – 72-hour suspension from the Market*

*Any suspension is effective from the next business day
Market Relations Officers will also issue penalties ‘after the fact’ for non-compliance with social distancing rules as part of their current review of CCTV footage.

Detailed information regarding the impacts of COVID on Market operations can be found on our website at www.melbournemarket.com.au/melbourne-market-coronavirus-covid-19-response/.

Additional warehousing opportunities at the Melbourne Market

If you watched the 5-year Epping anniversary video in August, you would have heard MMA CEO, Mark Maskiell, talk about future plans for additional warehousing at the Market.

Since then, additional planning work has progressed on this project, and the MMA is opening expressions of interest for the potential release of a further 44,000 m2 of on-site warehousing, office / commercial spaces and showroom opportunities at the Melbourne Market site.

Expressions of interest for the new warehousing and commercial office opportunities are open to existing tenants, market business’ and other allied business’.

These new developments are planned to sit across six separate facilities located on the northern and eastern Market boundaries. With sufficient interest, it is planned that the developments could be completed and ready for leasing and occupation by March 2022.

To find out more, including downloading an information pack and submitting your expression of interest, visit melbournemarkets.com.au/eoi-warehousing-opportunities-at-melbourne-market/Register your interest in warehousing and commercial opportunities

Greengrocer celebration wall

Last week, the MMA and Fresh State were proud to unveil a new greengrocer celebration wall.

The Melbourne Market greengrocer celebration wall recognises and celebrates multi-generational greengrocers who have been fixtures in the industry for decades and have stood the test of time.

The wall is a way to recognise their role in the industry, and say thanks for their contribution to the Melbourne Market’s vibrant history.
The wall is located at the northern end of the Buyers’ Walk by the Fresh State office. If you haven’t already, go and check it out for yourself. See the greengrocer celebration wall installation process

Grand Final Public Holiday – Market closed

The Market will be closed on Friday 23 October for the AFL grand final public holiday.

If your parking permit only allows access on a day that falls on a public holiday, and you would like to come to the market on an alternative adjacent day, you will not be charged for parking and can enter the market. However, your regular bay may not be available.

Please see a Market Relations Officer on arrival for instruction.
