Market News

Sexism and sexual harassment have no home at the Melbourne Market

Nobody deserves to come to work in an environment where they are subject to sexism and sexual harassment. Market users, particularly women in the market, deserve to be treated with the same respect we would give our family and friends. Unwanted sexual advances, inappropriate physical contact, suggestive comments and jokes are all acts of sexual harassment, and they are unacceptable.

We all want a Melbourne Market we are proud of, an environment where we would be proud for our sons, daughters, partners, and parents to be involved.
When interacting with your fellow market users at work, ask yourself, would my family be proud to see me now?

Have you been the victim of sexual harassment in the market?
If you would like to seek support, confidentially discuss or report an issue relating to racism, sexual harassment, violence, bullying or harassment in the Melbourne Market, please email strongertogether@melbournemarket.com.au or call 0448 413 098.

Please visit the Stronger Together website for further information and support.

Joint Market Advisory Committee Meeting today

The Market advisory committees will hold a joint meeting today, 12 September. You can ask your advisory committee members to raise questions or ideas with the MMA.

Advisory committees work with the Melbourne Market Authority to advise on matters relating to Market operations and the fresh produce industry. Committee members are a great source of information and advice for Market users. To find out who the members of the advisory committees are, please visit the MMA website.

R U OK? Day

R U OK? Day is this Thursday, 14 September, and is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that any day is the day to ask, ‘are you OK?’ and support those struggling with life.

Asking the question, ‘are you OK?’ can make a real impact in the workplace. As employers or staff, we can all create a culture where people feel confident asking and answering this simple yet important question. Besides our legal responsibility of providing a safe and healthy workplace, these conversations can make a real difference to staff going through a tough time.

For further assistance on how to start a conversation, you can download the ‘How to Ask’ guide or access a number of resources online.

Children in the Market

Children in the Market will be celebrating the AFL Grand Final week these upcoming school holidays, on Tuesday, 26 and Wednesday, 27 September. As well as footy-themed activities and cheer, DEBRA Australia will be on-site, selling raffle tickets and raising money for the upcoming Melbourne Market Golf Day.

Please ensure all children are pre-registered, with the completed form returned to Customer Service before the event*. Please keep in mind recent vehicle upgrades and ensure you and your guests wear seatbelts when riding in electric buggies.

*Please note: All submitted forms will be automatically approved unless you are notified otherwise.
