Accessing the Market
Who can access the Melbourne Market
The Melbourne Market is not open to the public, to access the Melbourne Market you must apply for an access card.
To be eligible for a Market access card you must meet all conditions outlined in the Operating Rules and be a business or individual who either;
a) operates or works for a business relating to fresh produce, the flower industry or any other goods or services approved by the MMA; or
b) holds a Lease or Licence for all or any part of the Market Land.

What you’ll need for a new business application
As part of the application, you will need to provide proof of market-related business. To do this you will need:
- For companies: Business ASIC extract summary including business directors, current business address and ABN. This must be for a business related to the fresh produce or flower industry and must include a summary of business details.
- For sole traders or partnerships: registration certificate including ABN. This must be for a business related to the fresh produce or flower industry and must include a summary of business details.
- Formal identification with current address, such as:
- Current Australian driver licence
- Valid passport
- Birth certificate.
If your identification does not contain your current address you must also provide a utility bill to provide proof of residential address.
Visiting an existing tenant
If you are visiting a tenant, complete the form on the ‘Visiting the Market’ page under ‘Visit a tenant’ before you arrive at the Market.
Individual access card for existing Market businesses
Step 1.
Familiarise yourself with the Operating Rules.
Step 2.
Complete the online induction here. Make sure you record or print your ‘induction reference number’. This is the unique code you are given when you successfully complete the induction. Complete the online induction
Step 3.
Print out and complete the access card application form. Have it signed by your Business Nominee. Download an Application
Step 4.
Return your signed form and along with formal identification to the Customer Service Centre to have your photograph taken and pay the access card fee. Click here to view the fee schedule. Formal identification can include:
- Current Australian driver licence
- Valid passport
- Birth certificate.
If your identification does not contain your current address you must also bring a utility bill to provide proof of residential address.
Replace a lost access card
Step 1
Print out and complete the access card application form. Have it signed by your Business Nominee. Download an Application
Step 2
