Children in the Market – trial
Children under 15 years of age are not permitted in the Market in the interests of their safety. However the MMA recognises for some families, providing children exposure to the Market is part of the education process to ensure they’re equipped to one day manage the family business.
As a result, the MMA will relax this rule on two days only during the September school holidays on Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 September.
The details:
- All children entering the Market must be pre-registered and approved by the MMA.
- Children under 15 years old are not permitted in the Market except for nominated days as advised by the MMA.
- The trial will be limited to the first 100 registered children, so be sure to download the registration form and return it to the MMA as soon as possible to secure your child’s visit.
- Employees must have the approval of their business nominee prior to submitting their form to the MMA.
Please note, any unregistered children found on site will need to be immediately removed by the responsible adult. A breach of the conditions of the trial or Market Operating Rules will incur penalties for the Access Card holder and their employer.
Breaches in the trial will result in the immediate cessation of the trial.

Market trading hours survey
On Monday 19 September, all business principals and nominees with a mobile number registered with the MMA were sent a survey on Market trading hours via SMS.
Each business is eligible for one response to the survey.
If you’re a business principal or nominee, and your business has not received this SMS, please contact the MMA on 9258 6100. The survey closes at 12pm on Monday, 26 September 2016.
AFL Grand Final Eve Public Holiday
The Market will be closed on Friday 30 September 2016 for the grand final eve public holiday.
Details on the upcoming Spring Racing and Christmas public holiday will be published on the MMA website soon.
