Saturday Flower Market – open to the public trial
At the most recent flower advisory committee meeting, members discussed possible initiatives to raise the profile of the Flower Market, including opportunities to increase customer traffic.
One suggestion the advisory committee put to the MMA to was to open the Flower Market to the public after wholesale trade on a Saturday.
The MMA will trial this initiative for a period in the lead up to Christmas and review its success.
It is proposed the public market will run as follows:
- The Flower Market will be open to the public from 6:30 am – 9:00 am on a Saturday
- The trial will commence on Saturday 2 November and continue for 4-8 weeks
- There will be a small fruit and vegetable offering during the public market to entice more visitors
- The MMA will fund a marketing campaign to drive public awareness and attendance
- Those flower standholders who choose to participate must commit to being involved for each week of the trial and remain open for trade during the entire duration of the public market between 6:30 am – 9:00 am
- Regardless if you are participating or not, during the public market trial, trucks will not be able to enter the Flower Market on a Saturday until after 9:30 am
We are encouraging all Flower Market standholders to participate in this trial; we can then review its success and make a collective decision on the next steps moving forward.
