Upcoming Public Holidays

The Melbourne Market will be closed on the two upcoming public holidays, Thursday 22nd September (Memorial Day for Queen Elizabeth II) and Friday 23rd September (AFL Grand Final eve).

If your parking permit only allows access on Thursday or Friday, and you would like to come to the market on an alternative adjacent day, you will not be charged for parking; however, your regular parking bay may not be available, so please speak to a Market Relations Officer on arrival for parking instructions.

With a four-day break in trade, the MMA understand that there may be a need for some flower buyers to pick up stock over this period.

Buyers will be able to enter the market to collect any pre-orders on the public holidays. The Buyers’ Walk and trading floors will be closed, so individual arrangements must be made between buyers and sellers for any produce pick-ups.

Fine Food Expo Success

Last week the Melbourne Market participated in the Fine Food Australia event at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

As one of the biggest food trade events in the Southern Hemisphere and with tens of thousands in attendance over four massive days, it was an excellent opportunity to showcase all the Melbourne Market has to offer to caterers, restaurants, manufacturers, education, health, packaging and many interstate and international visitors.

We received many enquiries about accessing the market to buy both fruit and veg and flowers, with many signing up to attend the next Industry Open Day on Thursday, 6 October.

A special thank you to the following businesses in the Melbourne Market who supported the event and supplied produce and flowers:

Barkers Fresh Produce
Kapris Bros.
LaManna Premier Group
Produce of Virginia
Latorre’s Fresh Produce
Perfection Fresh
All Aussie Farmers
Grown Florist

Floral tributes to the Queen: What happens to the flowers

Following Queen Elizabeth II’s death, floral tributes have been left outside some of the Her Majesty’s residences and royal homes across the UK.
Flowers that have deteriorated will be moved to the Hyde Park nursery for processing and composting, this organic composted material will then be used on shrubberies and landscaping projects across the Royal Parks.
