Children in the Market: Next Tuesday and Wednesday

Seeking school holiday fun? Children in the Market is back next week on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 July.

It’s a great opportunity to show the little ones in your life what you do for work and what the Market is all about.

Every child will receive a goodie bag, and planned fun and games will give kids a chance to win fantastic prizes like Hoyts Cinema vouchers!

Activities will be held from 5 am between Art & Style and Customer Service.

Registration is essential via this form. Completed forms can be emailed to customerservice@melbournemarkets.com.au or submitted at Customer Service.

While on Market grounds, all children must be accompanied by an Access Card holding parent or guardian and wear an approved high-vis safety vest. Please check if you have a children’s MMA safety vest at home and bring it with you, or one can be provided.

*Please note that children are only permitted at the Market these days. If you bring children on other days, you may be issued an infringement and asked to leave.

Meet your Victorian Retailers of the Year

Congratulations to Greavesy’s Fruit n Veg in Terang – our Victorian Retailers of the Year! Cheers to Cassie, Jason and the team for placing first in Victoria and second nationally.

Well done to Arnold’s Wodonga and Eden Garden Fresh Market for placing second and third in Victoria, respectively.

2024 National Retailer of the Year went to Adelaide Fresh Fruiterers in South Australia, with Greavesy’s placing second nationally and Arnold’s third. It’s great to see two Victorian stores in top spots.

Industry News

International vegetable of the year purple sweet potatoes pack a punch with higher antioxidants

The purple sweet potato has been named as the inaugural winner of international vegetable of the year due to its health benefits.”Just like with beetroot, that beautiful deep purple colour means it’s really rich in antioxidants and that gives your immune system a boost,” Clinical nutritionist Belinda Martinella said.

“Even the other colour sweet potatoes, such as red and copper, offer lots of nutritional benefits, like vitamin A and C, and beta carotene.”

Sweet potatoes have surged in popularity in the past decade, with production up 95 per cent since 2013. Last year 64 per cent of Australian households purchased sweet potato and consumed 3.15 kilograms per capita, according to grower research company Hort Innovation.
