Meet the Growers Advisory Committee

The next Advisory Committee meetings are scheduled for Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 July. These meetings are a great place for the market community to raise questions and offer suggestions directly to the MMA.

If you have something you’d like the Growers Advisory committee to raise, come and have a chat to one of the members below.

Clockwise from top left: Anthony Pignataro  – Glow Fresh, Nick Patsuris – Patsuris Premium Produce, Vince Doria – Freni & Doria, Frank Attana – Butler Market Gardens, Rick Mazaris – Mazcorp 5.

Hort Connections and Horticulture Awards for excellence

Last week’s Hort Connections Conference in Melbourne was a record-breaking event and even included a tour of our market! Thank you to the wholesalers who spoke to the tour groups and offered product tastings.

The Market congratulates local growers Rocky Lamattina & Sons (pictured), who were named Grower of the Year for 2024. The growers supply several market businesses, and it is great to see Victorians taking home the prize! Click here for the full list of winners.

Did you know that around 40% of poor health and premature death among Australian men can be prevented by healthier habits?*

While good health doesn’t just happen, it doesn’t have to be hard. This year’s Men’s Health Week theme is Empowering Good Health Heroes, shining a light on the most essential and effective habits for better wellbeing:

  • Physical Exercise
  •  Nourishment (eating well)
  • Social connection
  • Sleep and rest
  • Understanding and reducing risk-taking
  • Education and proactively addressing health niggles

Take the Good Health Heroes quiz here to find out what healthy habits you are fulfilling and simple tips for the areas that need work.

Healthy Male has also developed a website where you can easily search for reliable information on almost any health topic, such as alcohol use, hair loss, and understanding risk-taking. Visit the website by clicking here.

Hort Innovation launches consumer data portal, Hort IQ

Hort IQ provides fresh produce growers with the latest comprehensive Australian fruit, vegetable, and nut consumer data.

The goal of the portal is for growers to gain a comprehensive understanding of market dynamics, purchasing trends, and consumer perceptions across fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

Underpinning the platform is a portfolio of data projects that track what Australians think, feel, and do in relation to fresh produce through research partnerships with Fiftyfive5 and Nielsen IQ. This offers valuable and actionable insights for the sector.

Access to Hort IQ is available to eligible people engaged in growing, marketing, selling and development of Australian horticulture. Check your eligibility by registering at www.hortiq.com.au.
