Re-enactment of a real-life forklift incident

Vehicles present one of the biggest safety risks on the Melbourne Market site, especially when operating rules are not followed.
The video below is a re-enactment of a real-life forklift incident that happened at the Melbourne Market, resulting in an injury to a market user.
The short animation breaks down and shows all the contributing factors that led to the collision and reminds us of what we need to do to help make sure we all get to go home safely to our loved ones.

Supporting Laurence through his cancer treatment

One of the Market community’s well-known and down-to-earth Market Relations Officers, Laurence, is currently undergoing treatment for an aggressive form of cancer.

Since May, Laurence has spent over three months at Peter Mac undergoing approximately four rounds of chemo and 50 transfusions of blood and platelets.

Laurence began as an MRO at the Melbourne Market in 2019 and transitioned to Gate 1 support, where he established himself as a respected member of the market community. Away from the market, Laurence is engaged and has a seven-year-old daughter; before his diagnosis, he enjoyed jujitsu, going to the gym and playing the guitar.

Unfortunately, his most recent diagnosis means more chemotherapy or a bone marrow transplant are no longer viable treatment options. Laurence has started a new drug, not made or sold in Australia, that has been sourced from overseas that aims to help prolong his life.

Laurence’s sister has set up a GoFundMe page and has asked for it to be shared far and wide, including with the market community.
It is Laurence’s sister’s wish that money raised will help support him and his family through the financial hardship the last six months have caused and allow Laurence to live the remainder of his life to the fullest and as stress-free as possible.

You can read more about Laurence’s story and donate at https://gofund.me/3d615fa6.

We’re all thinking of you Laurence at this difficult time and wishing you the best.
