Be the change – Calling out bad behaviour

As a community, we have a responsibility to look out for one another and one way we can do this is to challenge anti-social behaviour that we may have previously ignored. Of course, we only control our actions and can’t be responsible for other people’s behaviour. However, there are some things we can do that will make people stop and think about what they are saying or doing and the negative impact it may be causing.

Show Disapproval: Don’t laugh or join in. Make it clear in your body language and words that you don’t agree. You can ask questions to show your disapproval, like, “How was that funny?”

Speak up: Call it out if it is safe to do so.

“That comment is offensive to women, and it’s not on.”

Make it personal: point out how their behaviour or comments could affect someone they know.

“Imagine if someone threatened your son like that.”

If you have witnessed issues around racism, sexism, violence, bullying or harassment in the Melbourne Market, you can make a confidential report. Please email strongertogether@melbournemarket.com.au or call 0488 413 098.

Please visit the Stronger Together website for further information and support.

Thanh Truong: Don’t Buy Fruit & Veg Without me!

Our very own Thanh Truong from Aus Asia Produce has just released his book, Don’t Buy Fruit & Veg Without Me!

As well as working as a fruiterer within the market, Thanh has built his social media presence as the Fruit Nerd, using his passion for fresh produce to educate consumers.

Thanh’s book is a collection of all the knowledge, tips and tricks he has learnt from fruiters and wholesalers he has met during his career within the Melbourne Market. Thanh worked with individual fruit and vegetable experts to source the produce and information in his book, including the history and scientific background of many fruits and vegetables.

If you are interested in picking up Thanh’s book, click here to see a list of stockists. Signed copies will also be available for purchase from the Aus Asia Produce store.

Children in the Market Footy Fun

Thank you to everyone for ensuring the children could enjoy the market safely and for those who purchased raffle tickets, raising funds for DEBRA Australia as part of the upcoming Melbourne Market Golf Day.

Drug and alcohol testing continues at the Melbourne Market

The Melbourne Market is a drug and alcohol-free site, and we regularly conduct random drug and alcohol testing.

Our drug and alcohol testing program has been in place for almost three years and remains part of our ongoing commitment to providing a safe work environment.

Due to the random nature of the testing, some market users may have been tested multiple times over the past three years, while others may have yet to be tested.

When market users follow instructions and receive a negative test result, the whole process from start to finish takes just 8 minutes to complete, having minimal impact on your morning.

We will continue conducting random testing on-site to ensure a safe work environment, so you should expect that you will be tested at some stage.

When you are randomly selected for drug and alcohol testing, we ask that you cooperate and follow the instructions of the tester to make the process streamlined, quick and easy for all involved.
