Lunar New Year 2023 2023 is the year of the Rabbit, and to celebrate, the Market is welcoming back the Chinese Youth Society of Melbourne to perform the traditional lion dance and blessings on Tuesday, 24 January 2023. To ensure every business that wishes to receive a blessing on the day is included in the schedule, please email the MMA at submissions@kevin  Help us raise funds for flood-affected growers this Christmas  It’s that time of year again when Santa visits the Market to bring some festive cheer while shaking his donation tins. Earlier this year, we saw the effect floods had on numerous rural towns and communities in Victoria’s north and northeast, with more than 120,000 hectares of crops being lost and approximately 12,000 farming properties damaged. The MMA, Fresh State and A better choice! are coming together and kicking off the fundraiser with a combined $30,000 donation to support flood-affected growers – but we need your help too! Click here to donate via GIVIT now 100% of the funds raised through GIVIT will be used to purchase items and services flood-affect growers need to get back on their feet and recover from the devastating impact of the floods. For those that don’t get a chance to donate online, Santa will be visiting the Market and on Thursday 22 December, to spread some festive cheer and collect donations from the market community. Here’s how to give your front door an Aussie Christmas feel  There’s nothing new about dressing houses for Christmas but wreaths seem to be on a new roll. While these decorations started out as simple rings – symbolising eternity – things have become more elaborate. Some have been known to make wreaths with everything from red baubles, cinnamon sticks and twigs to billy buttons, moss and the stems of cotton plants. Click here to read more. Christmas Trading Hours The Melbourne Market, including the Flower Market, will be closed on public holidays during the Christmas – New Year period.  To accommodate buying demand, buyers will have access to the Melbourne Market on Monday, 26 and Tuesday, 27 December, to collect pre-arranged produce orders only. It is important to remember the Buyers’ Walk, Trading Floor, and Flower Market will be closed, as these are not mandatory trading days. Some wholesalers and warehouse tenants may allow access to their premises for buyers who have made individual arrangements to collect produce. Crack-sealing Asphalt works – Produce Drive & Haymarket Road Crack-sealing asphalt works will commence at 9am on Thursday, 15 December, at the Gate 1 entry/exit roundabout and will be completed by 4pm the same day. Traffic and pedestrian management will be in place, diverting traffic using signs and bollards. One lane at a time will be closed for works to be performed, minimising the impact of entering and exiting the market at Gate 1.
