Latest Coronavirus (COVID-19) information

Thank you to the vast majority of Market users who are doing the right thing by wearing face masks, regularly washing their hands and social distancing.
A reminder that you must seek prior approval from the MMA if you believe you are exempt from wearing a face mask under the new laws (e.g. medical condition).
You can find a list of frequently asked questions regarding the use of face masks at the Market online by clicking here.

To get everyone into the Market as quickly as possible each morning, we ask that you let the team on the entry gates do the job they have been tasked with, without getting into debates and arguing. Unless you have a pre-approved exemption, you must be wearing your face covering and be ready to have your temperature taken as you approach the entry gate. Temperature screening will only be undertaken as per the manufacturer’s instructions, which includes, forehead, behind the ear, or under the armpit.

Detailed information regarding the impacts on Market operations can be found on our website at www.melbournemarket.com.au/melbourne-market-coronavirus-covid-19-response/.

Disposal of PPE

Every person in the Market is required to wear PPE in the form of a face covering, and many others are taking the additional step of wearing disposable gloves.

Please be considerate when disposing of PPE, as incorrect disposal poses a risk to others.

It is not acceptable to discard gloves or face masks on the floor within the Market, in the car park, or in toilet bowls. Bins are located throughout the Market for your convenience; please use them.

Scheduled Power Outage

On Sunday 2 August various areas of the Melbourne Market will undergo a temporary power shutdown to allow for crucial maintenance works to be carried out on the inner ring power supply system.
Power supply will be cut for approximately 9 hours, from 7:00 am – 4:00 pm.
The following Market areas will be affected:

  • Buyers’ Walk (all tenancies)
  • Administration Building
  • All commercial businesses
  • Fruit & Vegetable Trading Floor
  • Flower Market (including Flower Market Café and APACK).
  • Diesel station
  • LPG stations
  • Recycling Transfer Centre
  • Loading West and recess loading dock
  • EFS buildings

During the shutdown, these areas will be without power supply, including cooling/refrigeration.
Warehouses on the outer ring will not be affected by this shutdown.

To minimise impacts on your business, we have provided a list of suggestions for you to consider. Click here to read more.

Rapid roller doors and concrete repair works

As part of the breezeway upgrade project, rapid roller doors will be installed at the Flower Market end of the Trading Floor (grower’s stands), this week on the 29th and 30th of July.
The project, which has also included the re-alignment of handrails, bollards and line marking, will significantly enhance safety for vehicles and pedestrians in this area.
The three large-scale rapid roller doors will be operational from Friday 31st July.
Please remember these new doors will now be in place, and you will be required to slow down as you approach to avoid collision.

Also, concrete repair works on the trading floor were finalised over the weekend, and the forklift highway that had been blocked behind customer service is now re-open to forklifts and electric vehicles.

The people on the front line of this pandemic are the nurses and doctors fighting the disease, but also the essential workers in retail and transport who are feeding Victorians and keeping things moving.

We give a shout out to all the greengrocers, retailers, and florists; from junior staff in their first jobs to business owners working long hours.
We thank you for your hard work.
