Join us at the Melbourne Market, Retailer of the Year Celebration

The Melbourne Market community are coming together this Thursday, 6 July, to celebrate our very own A better choice! Retailer of the Year, People’s Choice Award finalists.

It is set to be a great celebration where ten wholesale businesses will announce the ten Victorian finalists and talk about the retailer’s relationship with their trusted wholesaler. The event will also celebrate the fantastic achievement of Arnolds Fruit Market as both the Victorian and national award winner.

Don’t miss this event, bringing us together as a community to celebrate the hard work of the fresh produce supply chain.

Creating an Inclusive and Respectful Melbourne Market – Updated site induction

We all want a Melbourne Market where everyone feels included, where people feel safe and are treated with respect. A place free of racism, sexism, discrimination, harassment, violence and bullying.

The Melbourne Market’s ‘Stronger Together’ initiative is about ensuring we have a Melbourne Market culture we can all be proud of through awareness, education, and policies focusing on diversity and respect.

The Melbourne Market induction has been updated with a new module titled Market Conduct. As well as information about the Market’s drug and alcohol policy, the updated induction includes a respectful behaviour section. It talks about how the Melbourne Market is a diverse community of people from many backgrounds that must be inclusive, respectful and welcoming. It discusses disciplinary action for those exhibiting anti-social behaviour such as racism, sexism, violence, bullying, and harassment and provides details of where to go for help if you feel you are the victim of any of these sorts of behaviours.

All new market users are now undertaking this updated induction, and in the coming months, we will begin a program where current market users will re-do the induction in line with the rollout of digital access cards.

If you have feedback about the Stronger Together program or would like to confidentially discuss issues around racism, sexism, violence, or harassment in the Melbourne Market, please email strongertogether@melbournemarket.com.au.

Children in the Market today and tomorrow!

Children in the Market is back today and tomorrow! You must sign in at Gate 1 on arrival, where you can grab a goodie bag, which will include a colouring competition with prizes available. A magician will be roving the Market from 5am performing close-up magic tricks to entertain not only the kids but adults as well.

Our biggest priority is safety. We ask that children be accompanied by their parent or guardian at all times and for market users to be especially vigilant and conscious that they will be onsite over these two days.

Restraints deadline – it’s time to remember to “Buckle Up”

By now, all market-approved vehicles must have appropriate restraints fitted as per the WorkSafe Victoria requirement, and they must be worn at all times.

To help market users get in the habit of buckling up every time they get in a vehicle, Market Relations Officers will be focusing on vehicle safety and distributing “buckle up” stickers. These visual reminders can be placed on your vehicle’s dashboard, steering wheel or another appropriate spot to remind you to wear your fitted restraint at all times, even on short trips.

If you do not have restraints fitted on your market-approved vehicle, please get in touch with your service provider immediately.

Contact WorkSafe Victoria on 1800 136 089 for any queries regarding the restraint requirements.

Citrus Australia leads first Origin Verification Program

Through an Agriculture Victoria Food to Market programme, Citrus Australia has conducted a first-of-its-kind study to characterise Australian oranges at both a country and regional level, using laboratory testing of trace elements and isotope ratios.

Citris Australia covered whether using trace elements or isotopes could determine if the origin of an orange was from Australia or another country, and if using the same techniques could differentiate place of origin between the five Australian growing regions.Click here to read more.
