Market News

You should continue to wear a face mask at all times while at the market

The Melbourne Market is a unique and busy environment where people regularly move back and forth between indoor and outdoor spaces. Due to the nature of operations at the market, people often come into close proximity with one another in both indoor and outdoor spaces that are densely populated, and it is not always possible to practice social distancing.

For these reasons, market users should continue to wear a face mask at all times while on-site at the Melbourne Market.

Victoria Police has once again indicated to the MMA that they will be visiting the market in the coming days to observe market users and ensure that COVID rules, including the wearing of face masks, are being adhered to.

Detailed information regarding current COVID restrictions at the Market can be found at www.melbournemarket.com.au/melbourne-market-coronavirus-covid-19-response/.

Thanks for doing the right thing!

Market relations officers are continuing to reward market users with cafe vouchers for positive behaviour. Those who are regularly found in the market doing the right thing, helping others or consistently and correctly wear their face mask have received the vouchers.

Check out some of our free coffee recipients below, thanks for doing the right thing!

Truck and carwash on market site

The MMA is seeking some preliminary feedback from market users and tenants as to whether they would utilise a truck and car washing service on-site at the Melbourne Market.
We have created a short 3-minute survey for market users and tenants to complete. The survey is anonymous, and any results may be shared with businesses expressing interest in leasing a potential vehicle cleaning facility at the market.
If you haven’t already, click here to access the survey and let us know your thoughts.

Full site emergency evacuation drill

For those in the Market on Wednesday 25 November, we will be conducting one of our twice-yearly full site emergency evacuation drills at approximately 9:00 am.

The drill will evacuate all tenants on Market land, including all administration building tenants, Buyers’ walk tenants, all warehouse tenants, visitors, and subcontractors on site.
Upon hearing the site evacuation tones, everyone will need to follow site evacuation procedures and follow the directions of Market Relations Officers.

The evacuation will incorporate ‘social distancing control measures’ to reduce any potential COVID risks. Face masks should be worn as people will be gathering together in groups at evacuation assembly points.
The drill should take approximately 15-20 minutes.
For those that will be on-site at the time, we look forward to your participation.

Under development

You may have noticed some construction and renovation works happening in two separate tenancies in the market.

Art and Style is expanding its footprint, which will see the wall knocked out that previously divided Art and Style from the convenience store, to create a larger premise.

Barkers Fresh Produce will be moving from their current location on the Buyers’ Walk to a new store just a stone throw’s away in tenancy 51. The location was the previous site of Food Fella’s cafe, which is being converted into a produce store.

There is lots of activity going on at the two sites at the moment and we are looking forward to sharing the results with you when they are completed.

Financial incentives announced for greengrocers to train staff

The first student intake for the Certificate III in Greengrocery is about to commence, and it’s not too late to join.
Many greengrocers have seen the value in registering their staff for the training program, as the Government are providing up to 50% wage subsidy up to the value of $7,000 per quarter for eligible staff.

For more details or to find out if your staff are eligible for the generous wage subsidies, contact Theresa Hunt on 0438 830 052 or by email at theresa.hunt@melbournemarket.com.au.
