| Coronavirus (COVID-19) update – Thursday 31 December Face masks to be worn indoors In line with the restrictions announced this morning by the Victorian Government, face masks must be worn indoors at the Melbourne Market from 5 pm tonight. Face masks will be mandatory in all indoor locations, which includes on the trading floor, Buyers’ Walk, growers shed, flower market, stores, commercial tenancies, offices and in cafes (except when consuming food and drink). Face masks should also be worn outdoors in any situation where social distancing cannot be maintained. The importance of adhering to social distancing rules is essential. You must remain at least 1.5 metres from other Market users wherever possible. Penalties for non-compliance To help ensure the safety and business continuity of the Melbourne Market, the MMA continues to impose penalties for those deliberately not following social distancing rules, or for those not wearing face masks. Under Operating Rule 12(b), A Person on Market Land must comply with the OH&S Plan and all relevant OH&S Requirements at all times; therefore any person found deliberately breaking social distancing rules, or, not wearing a face mask where required will be subject the following penalties: 1st offence – Warning that is recorded in a Market user’s file 2nd offence – 24-hour suspension from the Market* 3rd offence – 48-hour suspension from the Market* 4th offence – 72-hour suspension from the Market* *Any suspension is effective from the next business day Market Relations Officers will also issue penalties ‘after the fact’ for non-compliance as part of their current review of CCTV footage. Commercial Freight As previously communicated, where a commercial freight operator (truck driver) entering the Melbourne Market has resided in, visited, been in, or travelled through a NSW red zone or a hot zone since 11 December 2020;The individual must only leave the vehicle cabin to access toilet and bathroom facilities, to sign in to the site at Gate 1, or in an emergency situation.Where the individual leaves the vehicle cabin, they must wear a fitted face mask at all times. Future changes to restrictions We are all looking toward a new, and hopefully brighter year, but we remind the Market Community that this global pandemic is not over. COVID-19 is an ever-changing situation; market rules and restrictions may need to be amended in line with advice from the DHHS to keep the market community safe and businesses operational.
